Swift County Court Administration

Swift County uses Court Administration as the practical clerk function for court case records. The official Swift County District Court page identifies Katie Bloch as Court Administrator and lists the court office at the Swift County Courthouse in Benson. That office is the local access point for certified copies, courthouse-terminal questions, court-calendar questions, copy procedures, and public records not fully available through Minnesota Court Records Online.

Minnesota's online court record system is useful, but it does not replace the local office. MCRO terms state that online records and search results are not certified court records. They also state that certified copies of court documents and civil judgment search results may be obtained from local court administration. For Swift County, that means the online search path and the courthouse counter work together rather than competing.

Swift County Certified Copies

Certified copies are official court copies issued by Court Administration. They are different from an online view, downloaded document, or printed MCRO search result. Certified copies may be needed for legal filings, employment or licensing matters, judgment enforcement, name-change proof, probate use, or divorce decree proof. The request should identify the case number when available, the party names, the document requested, and whether certification is needed.

Use MCRO first when the case number is unknown. A name search, case-number search, citation-number search, or hearing search can help identify the file before contacting the courthouse. If the case is restricted, missing online, old, or only available on a courthouse public terminal, Court Administration is the better next step.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota is separate from Swift County Court Administration.

Use federal court sources for federal cases, and use Swift County Court Administration for state district court files.

Swift County Clerk Boundaries

Court Administration is not the only records office at the courthouse. The Auditor-Treasurer, led in the research by Sarah Jaeger, handles county finance functions and links for marriage licenses and marriage records. Marriage certificates and the Minnesota Official Marriage System belong on that path, not the court-copy path.

Swift County Land Records is another separate office. It is custodian of county records tied to real estate titles, transfers, and plats. It also handles Torrens or registered land work under District Court directives, military discharges, tax liens, and copies of title documents. A court judgment can affect land, but the judgment record and the recorded land document are not the same file.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota is also a federal prosecution office, not Swift County Court Administration.

For Swift County criminal case filings, the County Attorney and District Court records path remains local unless the matter is federal.
